Our school aims to provide a richness of educational experiences. Lower school programs develop analytical skills and strong work habits within a consistent, nurturing environment of caring teachers while the senior school strives to ensure students are counselled into the wisest course choices to maximise their achievement. For students who elect Courses of Study (university or work/TAFE pathways) or Vocational Education and Training subjects, opportunities to achieve excellence are provided as staff challenge students’ learning. Strong emphasis is placed on building effective partnerships with parents in the important senior years.
Busselton SHS is well known for its exceptionally skilled music program where nurturing the joy of music is a philosophy shared by all music staff. Many students, who have been involved in the Primary School Music Program, continue their music studies at a secondary level, often continuing into upper school. Junior and Senior Symphonic Wind and Jazz Bands and Vocal Ensembles have a high profile both within the school and out in the broader community with regular performances taking place at functions and events. Exciting tours further enhance the program. Students who wish to study a musical instrument privately are encouraged to audition for a place in the music ensembles.
Relevant Vocational education and Training (VET) programs are successfully engaging and preparing students in Year 10, 11 and 12 for the workplace ot further training. The skills gained in the award winning VET programs in Marine and Outdoor Recreation Studies provide comprehensive opportunities for students to be motivated, self directed learners who make a real contribution to the community. Busselton SHS’s VET program is renowned for students attaining TAFE recognised certification and consistently attains high rankings amongst schools in the state.

Students, in addition to their general physical and health education, have opportunities to select specialist sporting and fitness programs. They also participate in extra-curricular sporting competitions ranging from surfing and swimming to golf and more traditional sports. The emphasis across the whole sporting program is on fitness and participation for all, but students who demonstrate exceptional ability are fostered and encouraged to achieve at the highest levels.
