Early Childhood Studies

School - Upper School Subjects

This course aims to extend the student’s knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and values relating to the growth and development of children from the time of conception through to 5 years of age.

An understanding of child development is covered, including social, emotional and cultural changes that impact on families.

Children and families are a vital resource in society, therefore studying this subject may lead to students being able to function better as care givers in the future.  There are also valuable links to courses at TAFE and within childcare vocations.  It is also a subject which provides a relevant and valuable background to careers in nursing, social work, medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and teaching.
