School - Upper School Subjects
In this course students learn about the English language: how it works and how to use it effectively. The English course of study will enable students to further their achievement of the following Curriculum Framework Outcomes from the English learning area: Understanding Language, Attitudes, Values and Beliefs, Conventions, Processes and Strategies, Listening, Speaking, Viewing, Reading and Writing.
Language plays a central role in human life: it provides a vehicle for communication, a tool for thinking, a means of creativity and a source of pleasure. Through language, humans shape understandings of themselves and their world. An understanding of language and the ability to use it effectively empowers students. It gives them access to knowledge, enables them to play an active part in society and contributes to their personal growth.
As part of the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) requirements, all students must complete four units of English and achieve a Level Four to attain Secondary Graduation. Those vying for a place at University would need to aim for higher levels of achievement.
