School - Upper School Subjects
Foundations of Mathematics aims to equip students with some useful applied mathematical tools, and to foster an ability to solve mathematical problems and carry out mathematical investigations. It is intended for students who wish to study mathematics who may be preparing for tertiary studies in courses which have little or no mathematical requirement.
Students intending to select Foundations of Mathematics will require a very sound understanding of the concepts covered in Year 10 Pathway 2 or have successfully completed Pathway 1.
Students who successfully complete Foundations of Mathematics can proceed with Year 12 Discrete Mathematics.
Successful completion of any Year 10 Pathway is not a guarantee of success in the post compulsory courses.
Year 11 – D501
Prerequisite: Level 5 in Algebra and Measurement Strands.
Homework / Home Study Requirements: A minimum of 3 hours per week.
