School - Upper School Subjects
The Year 11 Geography unit is based on four distinct areas of study, with each one lasting for approximately one term.
- Geomorphic Studies: A study of plate tectonic theory, earthquakes, volcanoes, land forming processes, erosion, weathering and coastal features. A full day excursion will explore the local coastline.
- Atmospheric Studies: A study of the water cycle, the heat budget, reading weather maps, explaining weather and climate patterns and atmospheric circulation.
- World Biomes: A study of ecosystems - with specific attention to the tropical rain forest and the jarrah/tuart forest ecosystems. This will include a full day excursion to the jarrah forest.
- Patterns of Development: A comparison between the developed and the less developed nations of the world.
Year 11 – D305
Prerequisite: Working at Level 5 or 6 in some S&E Outcomes in Year 10.
Homework / Home Study Requirements: A minimum of 3 hours per week.
