School - Upper School Subjects

This subject is intended for students who have completed Year 11 Japanese or its equivalent and aims to:

• Develop students’ ability to communicate effectively in Japanese in a variety of contexts and for a variety of purposes.
• Develop their understanding of the Japanese language as a system.
• Develop and extend their awareness, understanding and knowledge of the inter-relationship between culture and language.
• Develop cross-cultural and intercultural perspectives.
• Gain access to the range of post-school options where Japanese may be used, eg employment, further education and leisure.
• Contribute to their intellectual, cognitive and social development.
• Encourage their enjoyment of language and language learning.

The subject integrates linguistic and cultural components by focussing on the following topics:

• Let’s go travelling!
• Money matters
• The Year’s events
• Short and long term plans for the future
