Music In Society

School - Upper School Subjects

Music in Society combines practical, creative music making tasks and research tasks.  Students are encouraged to enjoy music and develop a critical approach.  The course allows students to work independently and cooperatively with others.

Students study four (4) units of work in Year 11 and (3) units in Year 12.  Each unit studied develops appreciation, creativity and performance and is designed to develop a breadth of musical knowledge and skills. Students will develop an understanding of music and apply this to their everyday experiences.

Units will be chosen from the following areas:

•    Music Technology
•    Australian Music
•    Music Theatre
•    Music for Solo/Instrument and/or Solo Voice
•    Music for Small/Large Vocal/Instrumental Ensemble
•    Jazz Music
•    Music from a Non-Western Culture
•    Baroque Music
•    Classical Music
•    Rock Music
•    Western Art Music

Year 11 – D633
Year 12 – E633


Prerequisite:  Year 11
Completion of Year 10 Music (must have music reading skills and be able to play a musical instrument).

Desirable:  Year 12
Must have music reading skills and be able to play a musical instrument.
