School - Upper School Subjects

This subject continues to build on Year 11 Outdoor Education knowledge, skills and attitudes which students need to utilise, preserve and explore our natural environment.  The subject has a special emphasis on developing leadership and organisational abilities, whilst planning and conducting expeditions outdoors.  Major areas include minimal impact camping, survival skills, navigation techniques, emergency response procedures, safe roping and specific outdoor travelling skills.  Likely modes of travel will depend on equipment availability, teacher expertise, student interest and class sizes. 

This is a Common Assessment Framework subject that has set outcomes, tasks for measuring performance of the outcomes, and criteria for judging the performance of the outcomes.  At the end of the subject performance, students are rated and a grade awarded.
Students will be required to participate in overnight and day expeditions which may include weekends and must be prepared to commit additional time beyond normal hours to master practical skills.  Due to the potential hazardous nature of some activities students are required to demonstrate a responsible and safe attitude.

All camps must be self funded and students will be expected to meet the additional costs of these expeditions.
