Visual Arts - Art

School - Upper School Subjects

The units offered will meet the needs of students applying for tertiary entrance at the end of Year 12.  The units focus on differences arising from cultural diversity, place, gender, class and historical period in the first semester and identities in the second.

Students will explore drawing as communication and develop an awareness of how artists convey personal vision.  They will develop their knowledge of visual language and apply this to both art making and interpretation.  Students will be encouraged to make informed choices about the materials, skills and techniques used to present their ideas.  They will have the opportunity to exhibit their work formally and informally.

Students will develop understandings about the personal and public functions and purposes of art.  They will critically analyse their own cultural beliefs and values and develop deeper understandings of their own personal visual arts heritage.
