School - Upper School Subjects
Accounting is a valuable and practical subject, which provides personal record keeping skills as well as being a Tertiary Entrance subject.Students will learn how to keep records for a sole business owner and to prepare financial statements such as annual balance sheets and profit and loss statements. Students will learn the importance of controlling cash and credit and how this will help business owners succeed in running a business.
Students will also be exposed to accounting packages that are currently in use by businesses in Australia. This will allow students to transfer the manual skills that they have learnt to a computerised accounting system.
Where does this course lead?
This course offers students who are interested in the world of business and are seeking future training or employment in this area, practical, real-life skills that will assist them in their studies or in the workforce. Many positions offered or advertised require accounting or bookkeeping skills so students would be advantaged by having these skills by the time they complete Year 12 as well as being able to have their Accounting included in their TEE score.
Prerequisite: Level 5 or 6 in Mathematics Strand, ‘Number’ Level 5 in English Strands, Reading and Writing in Year 10.
Homework / Home Study Requirements: A minimum of 3 hours per week.
